The children in Chongsan kindergarten are visited by their parents every tenth day. A large part of the working stock consist of farmers working in state-owned agricultural collectives spread around the country. The work in these farming communities is often strenouos and leaves little time for the workers to spend with their children.

North and South Korean soldiers placed at each side of the border that has divided the Korean peninsula at the 38th parallel North since 1953. With the North and South technically still being at war with each other, the tension at the DMZ crossing is obvious. Nevertheless, the soldiers at both sides have been known to exchange cigarettes and have a decent relationship, according to the North Korean minders.
