We are two well-travelled Norwegian freelance journalists who visited North Korea in 2014 during the national holiday marking the 102nd birthday of North Korea's "Eternal President" Kim Il-sung.
As a tourist in North Korea it is nearly impossible to get an uncensored image of what really goes on inside the closed off nation, where the regime continues to deny the population basic human rights.
But inbetween artificial visits to gym’s, amusement parks and monuments glorifying the country’s dictators, glimpses of authenticity appears, showing a population that haven’t been stripped of their humanity. Despite the constant suppression, poverty and paranoia that a nuclear war will break out, life in North Korea goes on.
All photographs were taken in the course of a week from the 14th to the 21st of April, 2014.
